Philippians 1:3-6 King James Version (KJV)

3I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, 5For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Elijah was a normal man like us. He had to pray seven times before the rain came. Look to God for everything and wait upon Him.

1 Kings 18:41-45a King James Version (KJV)

41And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. 42So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, 43And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. 44And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not. 45And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain.

Saul started out blessed by God in many ways. He took his eyes off God. He was not mentioned in Hebrews 11. It happened to Saul and it can happen to us.

1 Samuel 31:1-6 King James Version (KJV)

1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. 2And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchishua, Saul's sons. 3And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers. 4Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. 5And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him. 6So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

We’ve all heard the saying, “A person after God’s own heart.” David had a humble heart and so should we. He confessed his sin right away after God made it known to him. God expects ALL Christians to have that same heart attitude!

Acts 13:22 King James Version (KJV)

And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

Don’t look at what others have...but, keep your eyes on God. He knows the desires of our hearts and will take care of us.

Psalms 37:1 King James Version (KJV)

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Ahab and Jezebel disobeyed the law of God and followed false gods. Elijah demonstrated that Jehovah was the one true God. How are we demonstrating God to those around us.

1 Kings 19:10 King James Version (KJV)

And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

Jeremiah 29:1 King James Version (KJV)

Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

Jeremiah was suffering. His nation and Jerusalem had been destroyed. He remembers what God had done in the past and encourages himself in the Lord. He learns to hope again in faith while he quietly waits for God.

Lamentations 3:19-26 King James Version (KJV)

19Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. 20My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. 21This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. 25The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

Without repentance, there is no salvation. Faith and repentance must go together; for salvation as well as living the Christian life!

Luke 24:44-49 King James Version (KJV)

44And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48And ye are witnesses of these things. 49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
